St. Louis, MO. – A top Missouri Republican lawmaker plans to revive a college voucher plan that never got to the full House last year.
House Speaker Pro Tem Carl Bearden of St. Charles is proposing to distribute state money for higher education to individual students.
Then the students could use the scholarships for public or private universities.
Critics fear the proposal could divert state money from public colleges and universities to private schools, including those with strong religious affiliations.
