St. Louis, MO – The National Association of Letter Carriers says the bill would give the Postal Service more control over rates and curb declining revenues.
The group's Art Buck says it also addresses a pension escrow account the Postal Service has been over funding:
"And that's a big reason why postage rates are going up two cents in January because we did not get postal reform legislation passed," Buck said. "Senator Bond has been the big hold-up of that.
Bond was not available for comment. But a spokesman says the senator will not allow the Postal Service to subsidize junk mailers by raising rates for residents.
