Veterans in O'Fallon remember Pearl Harbor

By AP/KWMU

O'Fallon, MO – Veterans of four wars gathered in the O'Fallon city hall on Sunday to remember the bombing of Pearl Harbor. They were a little early, as the official anniversary is Dec. 7, 1941.

More than 2,400 Americans - including 50 sailors from Missouri - died in the Japanese attack. The Missouri sailers were killed when the battleship USS Arizona was sunk.

The guest speaker at Sunday's O'Fallon Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day was Missouri National Guard captain Jay Manthey. He mentioned the current war being fought, saying he was pleased at the warm reception he got when he came back from Iraq. He says Missouri Guard units are almost at full strength, and people want to serve.
