St. Louis, MO. – The city of St. Louis and several agencies are seeking reimbursement of nearly $1 million for Hurricane Katrina evacuee shelter.

FEMA began moving hurricane victims into long-term housing before the 2,000-person shelter set up at Lambert Airport could be used.

Gary Christmann, chief of the St. Louis Emergency Management Agency, says he's not sure how long it will take to get the money.

I know with the last year and a half of hurricanes they're still working on Hurricane Charlie, and Ivan, and everything up to Wilma, so we're not really not expecting a quick turn-around but we're hoping a timely turn-around would be nice, Christmann said.

Christmann says FEMA has accepted the city's application for reimbursement.

He says the next step is turning in the budget from various agencies that participated in setting up the shelter.
