St. Louis, MO. – The woman in charge of curriculum for the St. Louis Public Schools is leaving that job to become a deputy superintendent in the Pittsburgh school system.
Chief Academic Officer Lynn Spampinato leaves the district only 15 months into her three-year contract.
This fall, she led an effort to revamp the curriculum at all grade levels.
The district's latest performance report found that it would drop to unaccredited status if it were to be reviewed this year. But Spampinato says the new curriculum has not yet had its first testing cycle:
"So we've implemented a lot more in terms of AP course work, really gearing up for the ACT, but the bottom line for the St. Louis Public Schools is that if we bring up academic achievement, we will be accredited.
Spampinato will leave the district December 28.
