St. Louis – The Federal Emergency Management agency said Thursday it would no longer pay for Hurricane Katrina survivors' hotels after the end of the month.
But that should have little impact in this area.
Thousands of people stayed in hotels here after the storm. Staff at St. Patrick's Center in St. Louis helped many evacuees find more permanent housing.
The center's Jean Jackson said there's only one person that she knows of that's still in a hotel.
"Because this community has just opened its arms, we've been able to place all but one, thus far, in homes throughout the St. Louis metro area," Jackson said.
"Jackson said the St. Patrick's Center adopt-a-family program helped many survivors get set up with furniture and other items in their new homes.
But she said about 100 families still need help with those things.
