Springfield, Ill. – The Associated Press reports that an individual close to state Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka says the Republican has decided to run for governor.
The individual insisted on anonymity because Topinka doesn't want the matter discussed publicly yet. But that individual also says Topinka informed other GOP leaders of her decision over the weekend.
A number of Republicans have already said they'll run next year. Democratic incumbent Rod Blagojevich hasn't formally said he'll seek re-election next year, but he is expected to.
