Springfield, Ill – Illinois lawmakers have approved new restrictions on the medicines that can be used to make methamphetamine.
Under the legislation, people who want to buy Sudafed or certain other cold and sinus medicine would have to show identification and sign a log. People under 18 could not buy medicine containing pseudoephedrine.
The state Senate approved the bill 59-to-zero Thursday. It now goes to the governor.
The measure was pushed by Attorney General Lisa Madigan, who says neighboring states already have tight controls on methingredients.
She says that has encouraged drug dealers from other states to come to Illinois.
