Jefferson City, MO – Missouri State Senator Bill Alter has amended campaign finance reports to account for a $58,000 discrepancy from one filing to the next.
The state Democratic Party filed an ethics complaint earlier this month against Alter, a Republican from High Ridge who won a special election this year to replace Steve Stoll after Stoll resigned.
Democrats claim Alter broke the law in reporting a debt of nearly $250,000 for April, but then starting with a lower debt in the next report. Alter amended one of those reports last week to make the figures match.
The state Ethics Commission has not ruled on the complaint. But state Democrats say he still hasn't explained lowering the debt figure.
