Jefferson City, MO – The Missouri House passed legislation Tuesday that will essentially keep information about public officials online.
The bill would repeal a law passed earlier this year that requires information like an official's address or phone number to be taken off websites.
But some county officials raised questions about how to comply with the restriction, note government Web sites contain information elsewhere such as property records, and it would be hard to remove that data for certain people.
The legislation passed Tuesday needs a vote in the Senate before going to the governor. It repeals a ban on courts, state or local agencies from posting online the home address, Social Security number or phone number of elected or appointed officials without their permission.
The House also passed and sent the Senate another bill to fix conflicts in new laws on drunken driving, child abuse and distributing prescription drugs at schools.
