St. Louis, MO – Officials at the St. Louis Zoo will examine the bodies of three chimpanzees who were shot and killed this weekend after they escaped from a zoo in Nebraska.
One of the dead chimps, Reuben, was born at the St. Louis Zoo in 1983.
Workers failed to completely shut a padlock after cleaning the chimps' cage near Royal, Nebraska.
A fourth chimp was recaptured, but St. Louis zoo officials hope that fourth animal will also be transferred here for testing, and possibly to live in St. Louis permanently.
