Jefferson City, MO – A judge on Monday issued a preliminary injunction against a law that keeps addresses and phone numbers of public officials from being posted online.
That move means the information will stay online, likely for good.
Cole County Circuit Judge Thomas Brown had issued a temporary restraining order against the law last month. He says the measure violates the state's Constitution by imposing a cost on local governments without providing funding to remove the names, and for other technical reasons.
A hearing to permanently block the law was set for next month, but it may not be needed. Lawmakers are working to make changes to a variety of new laws during their current special session, and their agenda includes repealing the provisions that the counties had challenged.
