Some of St. Louis's hurricane relief this past week has included people going to the Gulf Coast to help.
Despite calls for money instead of volunteers, Rachel Knafo and five others got in three cars Saturday and headed south. They delivered supplies in Jackson, Miss., then offered free rides to St. Louis to anyone who wanted.
Seven men took the offer and the group returned this week. Knafo says the men are now in apartments and looking for jobs. "Their faces are full of gratitude and hope and energy to start over," Knafo said Thursday. "Because they know there's nothing to go back to. Realistically speaking, most of them didn't have much to begin with."
Knafo a major challenge is now getting the men IDs, because their social security cards or birth certificates were either damaged or destroyed.
