Springfield, ILL – Madigan says concerns about out-of-state meth users coming to Illinois to load up on cold tablets containing ephedrine or pseudoephedrine have spurred calls to strengthen the law.
She notes Missouri has adopted stricter controls.
At the time of its adoption, Illinois' current law restricting the purchase of cold tablets to two packages per store visit was one of the toughest in the nation.
Madigan is calling for a measure similar to that in Iowa, where cold medicine purchasers must be at least 18 years old and can only buy seven and a half grams of the drug in a 30-day period.
