Belleville, Ill. – A man in Shiloh, Ill. is suing the Belleville Police Department. Bryan Schmittling, 41, claims several officers violated his rights by shooting him with a Taser gun three or four times after a traffic accident.
Schmittling was charged with drunk driving after the one-car accident in Belleville late last year. The suit seeks at least $1 million in damages.
He claims he didn't resist arrest but that police officers verbally abused him and shot him with the stun gun as they handcuffed him.
Belleville's police chief, Terry Delaney, couldn't be immediately reached for comment.
