St. Louis – Missouri State Auditor Claire McCaskill Tuesday kicked off her campaign for U-S Senate.

The Democrat hopes to unseat Republican Jim Talent next year.

McCaskill made the campaign announcement at her family's old feed mill in Texas County--a southern Missouri GOP stronghold.

University of Missouri-St. Louis political science professor Dave Robertson says her choice of that location was no accident.

"She's going to have to emphasize what she's going to do in Washington to help rural Missouri and rural America," Robertson said. "She's going to have to talk about the importance of economic prosperity for everybody in the state."

In November, McCaskill lost her bid for governor by a 3-percent margin to Republican Matt Blunt.
