Sedalia, MO. – Missouri's Democratic Attorney General Jay Nixon says he's "very interested" in challenging Republican Governor Matt Blunt in the 2008 election.

Nixon is in his fourth term as attorney general. His comments Thursday were his strongest yet about his political ambitions.

They came during the annual Governor's Ham Breakfast at the Missouri State Fair, an event that historically has been a must for politicians courting rural voters. The governor always serves as the official host.

In his speech, Blunt stressed agricultural issues.

Nixon's comments came after an audience member encouraged him to challenge Blunt. Nixon insists that the encounter was not staged.
