Springfield, Ill. – A top Illinois Republican is vowing to stay on the job despite concerns that his lobbying business is causing problems for the party.
Bob Kjellander is a member of the Republican National Committee and treasurer of the national party.
Federal prosecutors are looking into an investment by the Teachers Retirement System that generated $4.5 million dollar commission for Kjellander received as a lobbyist.
But despite calls from some in his party to resign Kjellander says he won't resign.
"I am 100 percent haven't done a thing wrong here at this point, I'm staying put," Kjellander said. "I'm not going anywhere."
Some Republicans say he is a distraction for the party when it is still trying to recover from scandals related to former Governor George Ryan. The complaints are especially strong among conservatives.
But others say Kjellander has served the party well and should not be forced out.
