St. Louis, MO. – St. Louis schools superintendent Creg Williams says he's confident returning students will have updated textbooks available at the start of class.
In years past, city schoolchildren often received their books well after the start of the year if at all.
Many were outdated as well. Williams says the district has since changed its distribution system, so that manufacturers don't send books to a warehouse where they could get lost.
"This year, the trucks pull right up to schools with the books and unload the books at the schools," Williams said. "So that's going to bring a totally different time frame in terms of making sure that schools have the books and the materials that they need in a timely fashion."
Classes begin in the St. Louis public school district August 22.
