It's been well reported that Missouri leads the nation in the number of seized meth labs. Recently, attention has focused on state laws and proposed federal legislation limiting the sale of psuedoephedrine - the prime ingredient of meth.
But a lesser known bill before Congress addresses the cleanup of closed meth labs. The impact those sites have on public health and the environment is still not fully understood, and Missouri is quickly trying to catch up with that part of the crisis.
