St. Louis, MO – The U.S. Transportation Command at Scott Air Force base is getting a new leader.
President Bush has nominated Air Force Lieutenant General Norton Schwartz to replace General John Handy.
The U.S. Senate has to approve the nomination. If it does, Scwartz will also become a general.
Transcom, as it's called, coordinates all travel and shipments within the military. Handy has commanded it and the Air Mobility Command (also located at Scott AFB) since November 2001.
No date has been set for the change of command, and a new commander for the Air Mobility Command has not been named.
Schwartz is currently the director of the Joint Staff in Washington. He was graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1973.
