St. Louis, MO. – St. Louis mayor Francis Slay is speaking out about his decision to fire the former head of the St. Louis Civil Rights Enforcement Agency.
Slay gave few details about the incident last Friday, in which he reportedly fired Kenneth Jones over a disagreement about Jones' efforts to recall city alderman Jeffrey Boyd.
The mayor chose not to elaborate on the tone of the meeting but said he simply exercised his right to dismiss Jones under city ordinance.
"I was very surprised with how it turned out ultimately and basically disappointed but based on the way the discussion went, really I was left with no other alternative, and we're going to move on," Slay said.
Slay said he hoped he and Jones can put the issue behind them and work together on other matters. He said at this point he has no other candidates in mind for the post.
