Jefferson City, MO – An ethics committee in Jefferson City deadlocked Monday on a complaint against a state representative from Chesterfield.
It stems from a letter Jane Cunningham sent colleagues last year touting her fund-raising success for Republicans.
The letter suggested she could keep those contributions coming if she were re-appointed chairwoman of the House education committee, which she was.
A motion to dismiss the complaint failed on Monday. That means the matter is still alive, but the chair of the committee says he has no plans to meet on the matter again.
House Speaker Rod Jetton says his appointments to committees were not based on fundraising but on leadership skills and knowledge of the issues.
