Ameren, state studying possibility of wind farm in MO

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis, MO – Missouri's Department of Natural Resources is working with local power companies to study winds at high elevations to gauge whether a large commercial wind farm is possible in the state.

The two largest utilies in Missouri, Kansas City-based Aquila and St. Louis-based Ameren-U-E, have agreed to help fund a $150,000 study.

The yearlong study through the University of Missouri-Columbia will look at six sites.

New maps show that the windiest part of the state is in northwest Missouri.
