St. Louis, MO. – Catholic school teachers who lost their jobs in the Archdiocese of St. Louis' recent school closings will get up to six weeks of severance pay.

Archbishop Raymond Burke announced the decision today.

In a statement the archbishop said the severance pay is designed to help "ease the pain" of the school closures.

About 200 teachers lost their jobs when the closures were announced, but half of the teachers have been rehired by the Archdiocese.

Mary Chubb, president of the Association of Catholic Elementary Educators, says today's announcement is a step in the right direction, but she says she needs to learn more details about the guidelines.
