Washington, D.C. – A Boeing spokesman says the company supports the Bush administration's decision to bring a trade case against its main competitor, Airbus.
U.S. Trade Representative Rob Portman said today that the administration is proceeding with a case before the World Trade Organization alleging that the European Union is providing illegal subsidies to Airbus.
EU member states are preparing to commit $1.7 billion in new aid to Airbus.
Boeing spokesman Russ Young says the company backs the decision but still hopes for a settlement. Young called the European subsidies "market-distorting."
