St. Louis, MO. – The St. Louis Board of Election Commissioners has three new members Friday.
Republicans Angel McCormick Franks and Ed Martin and Democrat Clarence Dula were sworn in to serve a four-year term.
Martin is the incoming chairman.
Last February, the federal government withdrew its oversight of the board imposed after a series of errors during the 2000 election. Ed Martin says the board will continue to build trust.
"Whatever the public trust level is now, we can always do better," Martin said. "And we need to push the thing forward where people think, oh, the Board of Elections those are smart people, good people that are really working hard at it and helping us have open and honest elections with reliable service."
A fourth nominee, Democrat Donayle Whitmore-Smith, was not sworn in because a state senator withdrew his sponsorship.
