St. Louis, MO. – One of the people reviewing the military's latest Base Realignment and Closure list Wednesday visited two sites in St. Louis that are on that list.
Former Air Force Brigadier General Sue Turner visited the Defense Finance and Accounting Service and the Army Human Resources Command.
The finance office is closing. And the Human Resources Command is moving to Kentucky. Together those offices account for nearly 1,400 local jobs.
Turner says being a BRAC commissioner is one of the toughest jobs she's ever had.
"It's going to be difficult, very difficult," Turner said. "We're talking about people, real people, not just spaces on a chart."
The St. Louis area could lose about 1,900 jobs once the BRAC list gets the approval of President Bush and Congress.
But the biggest installation, Scott Air Force Base, is adding jobs.
