Hillsboro, Mo. – Investigators in Jefferson County say a man who is in custody for a traffic offense is also a so-called "person of interest" in a spat of sniper-like shootings.
Someone shot at cars along Route 30 near Byrnes Mill early Sunday morning, then fired at police when they showed up.
But they didn't hit anything. And no one was hurt.
Police say they're looking for two other people who may have been involved.
They add the man in custody has not been arrested in connection with the shootings.
The first report came from a woman who said someone fired at her car around 1:00 a.m. Sunday. In all, 15-20 shots were fired over the next several hours at officers who responded from the county and the town of Byrnes Mill.
A task force including state and federal officers was set up to investigate.
