Jefferson City, MO – Missouri Governor Matt Blunt is riding in state cars about 45% more than Governor Bob Holden did. But Blunt hasn't used the state airplane at all.
The Associated Press obtained state mileage records that show the two SUVs that drive Blunt around have driven more than 24,000 miles.
During the same three months in his first year in office, Holden's two vehicles drove less than 17,000 miles.
But Blunt says he's saving the state money by flying around the state on a private plane that's paid for with campaign money.
Blunt's wife, Melanie, and their new baby stayed in Springfield during the period covered by the mileage records. But Blunt's office says the family has since moved to Jefferson City.
