St. Louis – Missouri Governor Matt Blunt wants to investigate school bus safety in the wake of several high-profile accidents around the state.
Tuesday he appointed a nine-member task force. Blunt says the group will review school bus safety, from driver licensing to whether riders should wear seat belts.
Franklin County Commissioner Ed Hillhouse is a member of the new panel. He says school buses are generally safe, but there's still room for improvement.
"When you have one student injured or one student killed, that's one too many, we all agree on that," Hillhouse said. If we can provide the findings that can help prevent even one, it'll be worth the task force."
Last week, two motorists were killed and 23 children injured after a school bus in the Kansas City area hit two vehicles at a busy intersection.
Two days later in Hannibal, a train sheared off the back of a school bus from Wentzville. But there were no serious injuries.
