Jefferson City, MO – Missouri lawmakers have sent Governor Matt Blunt legislation that would make it harder for homeowners to sue builders and other contractors. Blunt has has said he supports it.
It gives builders and remodeling contractors a chance to fix a problem before they're taken to court.
Homeowners would have to follow strict procedures and deadlines, which opponents say just makes things harder for consumers.
But supporters say the requirements would force both sides to be reasonable in resolving disputes.
Any homeowner who ignores the procedures would risk having a lawsuit dismissed.
The House and Senate both passed the measure by large margins on Monday.
