St. Louis, MO – Workers at seven Angelica Corporation plants have delayed a strike that was to have started this (Thursday) morning in four states.
Angelica is a Chesterfield-based company that cleans hospital linens. No local workers are part of the job action.
"We have made substantial progress in talks with the company on both the national and local issues--enough that we think it makes sense to keep talking," said Bruce Raynor, Unite Here's President.
"We are not going on strike at this point, and hope to reach a resolution. However, that will require substantial movement from the company. A strike is still possible and we will assess and reassess the situation as the day goes on and make determinations for the best course of action."
If there is a strike, it will take place in New York, North Carolina, Texas, and California.
The workers were to strike over issues including their safety, given that cleaning hospital linens often means coming into contact with blood and human waste. The company says its facilities are sanitary and safe.
