STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. – Three houses in Ste. Genevieve will be in the spotlight today (Monday) at the White House. The people who keep the houses up will be presented with the nation's highest award for presentation.
President Bush will present the second annual Preserve America Presidential Award in the category of private preservation to a complex of three houses in the river town.
The three houses and their gardens are owned by the St. Louis chapter of Colonial Dames of America, which operates the properties with the assistance of the Bolduc Historic Properties board.
The chapter was ahead of the preservation movement, buying the Bolduc House 56 years ago. The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation sifted through hundreds of applicants for the award.
