St. Louis, MO. – The Missouri AFL-CIO is lending its support to Washington University students seeking higher wages for campus employees.
The Student Worker Alliance has staged a sit-in since Monday at the university's admissions office.
That got the attention of Hugh McVey, the president of the state's AFL-CIO.
He says if the students don't get their demands met, his organization will be there to help.
"We will get the people here and I hope the chancellor; I will respectfully ask him to sit down with these people and see if we can hammer something out; get something done," McVey said.
The students want Wash U to lift workers' pay to nine dollars 79-cents an hour and benefits.
In a statement, the university said several administrators met with student representatives Wednesday. They called it an important step.
