Bonne Terre, MO – The next execution in the state of Missouri will happen at a new site.
Officials say the two-year old prison in Bonne Terre was specifically built to house executions.
Missouri re-instated the death penalty in 1989. The first execution took place in Jefferson City, but since then, all 61 have taken place at the prison in Potosi.
Death row inmates will still live at Potosi, and make the 25-mile trip to Bonne Terre. Officials say there is virtually no chance of escape during that trip.
