Van Buren, MO. – A southeast Missouri man has been charged in the killing of a state trooper.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says 28-year-old Lance Shockley of Van Buren was arraigned Tuesday on charges of first-degree murder and armed criminal action. He is being held without bond in the Cape Girardeau County Jail.
Sergeant Carl Dewayne Graham Junior was fatally shot March 20 outside his home near Van Buren, still wearing his uniform.
Shockley was arrested March 23 for leaving the scene of a fatal November crash that Graham investigated in Carter County.
Investigators sought a possible link between the investigation and Graham's death.
Graham was zone supervisor for Carter and Reynolds counties. He was the divorced father of a 4-year-old son, and was engaged to be married.
