St. Louis, MO – A Polish parish in St. Louis whose priests were removed in a dispute with the archdiocese will celebrate Mass for the remainder of Holy Week. They've brought in an anonymous priest to officiate over the services.
The St. Stanislaus Kostka parish near downtown is at odds with Archbishop Raymond Burke over control of the parish and its assets.
Burke removed both priests last year, then in February issued an interdict, which denies Communion and other sacraments, against the parish board.
Sanctions aside, parishioners have continued to meet for regular prayer services led by lay members. But for Easter, two members of the parish secretly used connections to bring in a priest, without disclosing his name.
A parish spokesman says the priest will stay only through Easter Sunday.
