Police Hope Video Will Help After Game Fight

By AP/KWMU

Edwardsville, Ill. – Police say they hope videotape of a fight that broke out after a high school basketball game will help them identify a suspect in the stabbing of a 17-year-old Alton teenager.

The student was hurt Tuesday night shortly after Alton High lost to Carbondale 64-60 in a super-sectional game. The victim was airlifted to a St. Louis hospital, but officials have said his injuries weren't life-threatening.

Police say the stabbing took place during a fight outside the SIU-Edwardsville arena.

University spokesman Greg Conroy says a student from Alton High School had a video camera and taped the fight. He also says the two high schools were videotaping the game and are in the process of giving police those videotapes.
