St. Louis, MO. – Missouri State Auditor Claire McCaskill says uninsured drivers are costing motorists who have insurance $90 million a year in higher premiums.
A new report from the auditor's office says the Department of Revenue could do a better job of catching people who drive without insurance.
McCaskill says the state is not getting good information from insurance companies.
"We are not getting information from all the insurance companies out there, and we have no insurances that the information we're getting is accurate, because there are no systems in place to determine the reliability of the information that we get," McCaskill said.
McCaskill also says the $20 license reinstatement fee for motorists who lose their driving privileges is too low.
In a statement, the Revenue Department Director Trish Vincent says the problems auditors found are left over from the Holden administration.
