St. Louis, MO – Washington University's School of Medicine will open a center to prevent and treat heart disease in diabetics, with the help of a $14 million grant.
The center's director, Daniel Kelly, says heart disease is the leading killer of diabetics. He says more work needs to be done to understand and care for diabetics at risk for heart attacks.
Former KWMU host Mike Sampson died earlier this year of heart disease that was - in part - caused by his diabetes.
