St, Louis, MO – A gorilla who once lived at the St. Louis Zoo has died at a Pennsylvania zoo.
It also appears Rudy, at age 49, lived longer than any other gorilla currently in captivity anywhere in the world. Rudy died Tuesday at the zoo in Erie, Pa.
And a zoo spokesman says even 40 is pretty old for a gorilla. He says captive gorillas can start to have health problems in their late 20s to early 30s.
The zoo says Rudy's appetite recently had been declining. Rudy was captured in Africa as a baby. Before arriving at the Erie Zoo 18 years ago, he lived at zoos in St. Louis, Los Angeles and Cleveland.
