St. Louis, Mo – A former leader of Southern Illinois University has died. James Montgomery Brown was 83.
He oversaw all SIU campuses as Chancellor from 1992-1995. That job was later re-worked into the position that's known today as university president.
Brown also held other high-ranking posts during his tenure and help create the current SIU system, which includes two large campuses (at Carbondale and Edwardsville) and several satellite locations (including a Dental School in Alton).
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, March 7, at Weber Funeral Home in Edwardville. A funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at St. John's United Methodist Church, also in Edwardsville.
