Clayton, Mo – St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley has been asked to ask the County Council to permit lowering speed limits in highway construction zones by up to 10 miles-per-hour.
Supporters say the change would improve worker and motorist safety in construction zones. A county ordinance now allows the posting of signs asking motorists to reduce their speed in construction zones.
But police officers lack authority to enforce them.
The county would require lower speed limits only where the type of construction zones make them necessary.
