Missouri House Approves Cold Pill Bill

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis – Efforts to control sales of a chemical used in making methamphetamine are moving forward in the Legislature.

The House Thursday passed its own version of a bill targeting nonprescription drugs that contain pseudoephedrine. It's a decongestant used in many cold and allergy remedies, such as Sudafed. It's also used to make methamphetamine.

Only pharmacies would be allowed to sell the cold medicines in tablet form under the House bill.

Customers could only buy limited quantities at a time. They would also have to show ID and sign a log for each purchase.

The House vote sends the bill to the Senate, which already has passed its own version.
