St. Louis, MO – Negotiators for St. Louis teachers and the city's school district return to the bargaining table Monday.
Teachers in the state's largest district are saying they could set a strike date as early as this week if no progress is made in contract talks. They already have voted to authorize a strike, even though state law prohibits it.
The district has offered raises that it says will bring teacher salaries in line with more affluent suburban districts.
But teachers say the extra hours they'd have to work make the contract proposal unacceptable.
