St. Louis, MO. – About 150 dogs are in the care of the Humane Society of Missouri after being rescued today (Thursday) from a puppy mill just east of Springfield.
Missouri chapter President Kathy Warnick says the conditions the dogs were living in were "deplorable."
"The animals have been living in wire cages with dirt floor bottoms. And the majority of them had food that was feces-covered; water that was frozen," she said.
The mostly purebred dogs include Great Pyrenees, Shelties, and Basset Hounds.
Warnick says they don't know long the dogs had been living under such conditions, but she says the Douglas County Sheriff is investigating.
