Kansas City – Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon says he supports a legislative effort to extend protection from unwanted calls and text messages to cell phone users.
Nixon says 60 percent of Missourians are now on the state's "no call list" for their home phones.
But with skyrocketing cell phone usage, some lawmakers want to extend the same shield for mobile phones.
"Now our state no-call program has given us back peace and quiet and cell phone users in Missouri need that same protection," Nixon said. "They want it and we should give it to them."
There is no deadline on the national no-call list, as a flurry of recent emails have suggested. The national list exists, though Nixon says that there is no enforcement on calls within the state.
