Springfield, Ill – As Illinois observes World AIDS Day, the Blagojevich administration is defending its decision to stop distributing flavored and colored condoms.
Health activists consider the condoms an effective way to fight AIDS.
They say condoms with bright colors and flavors like cherry and orange are more likely to be used, especially by young people who often engage in risky sexual practices.
But the Democratic governor worries the condoms will encourage sexual activity.
The state health department this year bought hundreds of thousands of the condoms. That's in addition to its distribution of ordinary condoms, which it will continue providing to clinics and local health departments.
