Edwardsville, Ill. – Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville's newest union is only about a month old, but it has already sent a complaint to university officials charging that they're violating union laws.
Alan Shiller, acting chairman of the SIUE Nontenure-Track Faculty Association, sent the letter on October 20th after some members were removed from hiring committees.
He says they were told they could no longer serve once they joined the union. Shiller wants the union members reinstated. He says union law requires that all personnel matters remain as they were until the university and the union negotiate their first contract.
The dean of the College of Arts and Sciences was unavailable for comment.
